“Nearly zero-energy building means a building that has a very high energy performance….

The nearly zero or very low amount of energy required should be covered to a very significant extent by energy from renewable sources, including energy from renewable sources produced on-site or nearby”

(Directive of The European Parliament and of the Council on the Energy Performance of Buildings (Recast):  EU, 19th May, 2010)

The HPBA is a Centre of Excellence and will be a leader and champion in high performance buildings and nearly zero energy buildings, both new and retrofit. In advancing the objectives of the HPBA, the Centre will participate in the UNECE network of International Centres of Excellence (NICE)
