Dear Members and Friends of HPBA,
As we say goodbye to the summer and continue on our journey towards a more sustainable built environment, I am thrilled to share several exciting updates and milestones achieved by the High Performance Building Alliance. Our commitment to advancing high-performance buildings and nearly zero-energy buildings remains unwavering, and we are proud to be at the forefront of this critical mission. This summer has seen significant progress in our projects, partnerships, and community engagement. We are grateful for your continued support and look forward to your active participation in the initiatives outlined below.
Best regards,

CCI and HPBA join forces
We are delighted to announce that the High Performance Building Alliance (HPBA) has joined forces with the Construction Cluster Ireland (CCI) to further our shared goals of promoting sustainable and high-performance building practices through a cluster. This partnership will enhance our capacity to drive innovation, share best practices, and support the transition to a more resilient and efficient built environment. Together, we will work towards reducing carbon emissions and advancing the adoption of sustainable construction methods.
Biobased Construction Materials Challenge
Our collaboration with the Circular Bioeconomy Cluster to launch the all-island innovation challenge for biobased construction materials has been a resounding success. The challenge aimed to identify and develop modular, adaptable, and circular biomaterials suitable for both new construction and retrofitting. We were so excited to see the innovative solutions being proposed and look forward to announcing the successful collaborators at the event which is taking place in Belfast on the 4th September. Many of these solutions will be showcased in our Green Hub. For more information, please visit the Circular Bioeconomy Cluster South West website: Circular Bioeconomy Cluster South West (cbcsw.ie)
Green Hub
We are pleased to report that the fit-out of our Green Hub in Senan House, Enniscorthy Technology Park, is progressing well. The acoustic spray installation is now complete, marking another significant step towards the completion of this innovative space. Designed with sustainability at its core, the Green Hub emphasises circular economy principles, modularity, and adaptability to extend product lifecycles. We will soon be opening the application process for leasing office spaces within the Green Hub, offering a unique opportunity for startups, freelancers, and small businesses focused on green technologies and sustainable practices to join our vibrant community.
HPBA Community
The High Performance Building Alliance (HPBA) is thrilled to introduce our new Community platform, a dedicated space for our members to showcase their sustainable products and service offerings to the HPBA network and beyond. As a leader and champion in high performance buildings, both new and retrofit, the HPBA is committed to fostering innovation, collaboration, and the advancement of sustainable solutions in the built environment.

Things to look forward to in September
With summer almost over (did it ever get started?!), we have complied a few things we are looking forward to in September.
- World Green Building Week: The Irish Green Building Council have put together an impressive schedule for World Green Building Week, which takes place on the 9th September 2024, celebrating global efforts to create sustainable and resilient buildings. Check this out at World Green Building Week 2024 | September 9th – 13th | Schedule – Irish Green Building Council (igbc.ie) HPBA will be participating, by engaging with our community, sharing best practices, and highlighting the importance of green building initiatives.
- UN Meeting of Experts in Geneva: The UNECE Sustainable Energy Week is taking place this year from the 16th – 20th September in Geneva. We will be attending the UN Meeting of Experts, where we will engage with global stakeholders to discuss strategies for decarbonising the built environment and enhancing building resilience. This event aligns with our commitment to supporting the United Nations Environment Programme’s GlobalABC and our role as a UNECE Centre of Excellence in the International High Performance Buildings Initiative. An update will be published on our website www.hpba.ie afterwards.
- Board Meeting hosted by IMR in Mullingar: We are looking forward to our upcoming board meeting, which will be hosted by the Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR) in Mullingar. We will have a tour of the facilities. This meeting will provide a platform for strategic discussions and planning to further our mission and objectives.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement. We look forward to a productive and impactful September.
Best regards,
The High Performance Building Alliance Team
