April 25, 2025 – Ireland / Pittsburgh, USA – The High Performance Building Alliance (HPBA), Ireland’s leading force for innovation in the built environment, is proud to announce a groundbreaking collaboration with the Green Building Alliance (GBA), a leading sustainability organisation based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. This strategic partnership will accelerate global efforts to decarbonize the built environment and foster innovation through shared research, cross-border pilot projects, and knowledge exchange.
HPBA and the GBA were original members of the UNECE’s High Performance Buildings Initiative (HPBI) and have a shared mission to transform how buildings are designed, constructed, and operated.
HPBA and GBA are joining forces to:
- Co-develop transatlantic education projects focused on net zero and circular design principles.
- Establish new innovation pathways to bridge research and commercialisation in both regions.
- Open up supply chains and market access for next-generation sustainable building products.
- Exchange expertise and best practices in regenerative design, smart buildings, and policy development.
“This collaboration is about bold action. It’s about connecting ecosystems across borders to accelerate the transformation of our buildings, our systems, and ultimately, our future,” said Amanda Stewart, CEO of HPBA. “Together with GBA, we’re not just sharing knowledge—we’re building a transatlantic innovation bridge that supports real change on both sides of the ocean.”
Founded in 1993, GBA is nationally recognised for its leadership in green building, having launched one of the first 2030 Districts in the U.S. and helped shape policy and design practices across the region. “We’re excited to partner with HPBA to strengthen global collaboration in sustainable innovation,” said Jenna Cramer, CEO of GBA. “The challenges we face—climate change, resilience, equity—demand international cooperation and local action. This partnership exemplifies that spirit.”
The partnership kicks off with a series of reciprocal visits, webinars, and a joint showcase during the HPBA’s Green Hub launch later this year, where both organisations will present their collaborative vision and first projects.
This announcement marks a significant step forward in uniting regions with shared values and complementary strengths to drive systemic change in the built environment.
